Arkansas Riverwalk turns pink for breast cancer awareness

It’s a life changing disease.

“I was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, something that is incurable,” Colorado Springs resident Nicole Lopez said.

She said it’s a scary situation.

“Me and my God don’t believe that, we believe that I’m going to be fine,” Lopez said.

She is one of the hundreds of fighters, survivors and supporters to turn the Arkansas Riverwalk into a sea of Pink Saturday for the Strides Against Breast Cancer event.

Pueblo resident Bill Woodall says his wife is fighting breast cancer and he made a tattoo with her face over a pink ribbon to show his support.

“Love makes you do crazy things, I guess,” he said.

It’s support Lopez and other fighters are looking for to beat the disease one step at a time.

The event made more than $10,000 with the money going to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer programs and research.

The American Cancer Society says breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death to women in the U.S.
