Future Pikes Peak Summit House discussed Wednesday evening

A new summit house for Pikes Peak is in the works.

The current summit house was built in 1964 and its foundation is beginning to crumble.

Authorities say the foundation trouble is only one of the building’s problems and it needs to be replaced.

The public was encouraged to offer input on the new summit house at an open house that was held at the Garden of the Gods trading post Wednesday evening.

Construction on the new summit house is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2016.
