35-year-old cold case reopened after remains identified
Authorities say they recently confirmed that remains found on a mountain in 1992 are those of a woman who was reported missing in 1980.
In a joint news release, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Salida Police Department said the remains belong to Beverly England.
England, then 32, was reported missing after failing to return home on the evening of June 12, 1980.
England had last been seen alive in Salida with another female. Several people were interviewed but the case went cold.
England’s remains were found on Mount Shavano, which is in Chaffee County, in 1992. The identity of the remains were confirmed through DNA in September 2015.
The investigation was reopened and the area where England’s remains were found is being excavated for evidence.
The news release says that investigators have already uncovered evidence that leads them to believe that England was a victim of foul play.
A task force has been formed to investigate England’s death.
