Triplets welcome father at Fort Carson homecoming

It was an incredibly emotional day for hundreds of families in Southern Colorado.

Two hundred forty Fort Carson soldiers returned home on Tuesday, after an eight-month deployment.

KRDO spoke with a new mother, Donia Simotas, who was eagerly waiting for her husband to come home.

Just two months before Simotas’s husband was deployed, she gave birth to triplets.

“He’s like don’t worry, I’m going to come home and I will help you while you relax. I’m looking forward to that,” Simotas said.

Around 6 a.m. the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team finally arrived.

KRDO was there when Peter Simotas saw his family.

“I haven’t seen them in a while, they got a lot bigger. What my wife is doing is incredible,” said Peter Simotas.

The homecoming celebrations didn’t stop there. 50 more soldiers are scheduled to arrive at the mountain post Tuesday afternoon.
