Fort Collins weighs allowing women to go topless in public

Fort Collins officials are considering changes to the city’s ordinance on public nudity that would allow women to go topless in public.

The Coloradoan reports the City Council is scheduled to discuss the proposals during its Oct. 20 meeting.

One of the proposed changes to the ordinance would keep the current policy that prohibits women from being topless in public, but would add an exception for women who are breastfeeding. Another change would allow all women to be topless in public.

The proposal is backed by residents who say current nudity laws are discriminatory against women, because men are allowed in public without shirts.

Public comment on the proposed changes will be accepted through Oct. 12.
