Update: Missing Crowley County sisters found
Two missing Crowley County sisters have been found safe, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Sheila Thomas, 15, and Carolina Schwab, 6, were reported missing from the Crowley County Fairgrounds Sunday morning.
The Crowley County Sheriff’s Office and fire department started searching for the girls.
“We take care of our own,” said firefighter Brandon Reisch. “We’re all tight knit. If something happens, we protect our own.”
Crowley County residents joined the search to help bring the girls home. After a lengthy search Sunday night, the girls were still missing.
Reisch said he was heading to the sheriff’s office Monday morning, when we noticed two girls walking down street.
“At first, I wasn’t sure, I thought it just happened to be another couple of kids in the neighborhood,” Reisch said. “When I circled back around, I noticed that it could be them, so I stopped.”
Reisch called dispatch, and the girls were returned to their home.
The sheriff’s office says the girls spent Sunday night in an abandoned house. The circumstances of their disappearance are still under investigation.
Reisch said he’s proud of his community for coming together to help find the girls.
“Everyone played their part,” he said. “I have to thank the fire service for all their help, the Sheriff’s Office and the community for coming out and helping with the search.”
