Police: Car hit with machete, shots fired in Pueblo City Park
Police in Pueblo said officers are looking for others involved in a shooting and car vandalism in City Park.
It happened near the skate park around 6 p.m. Monday (9/28/15). One woman was arrested and others detained, police said.
Jessie Alcon, 18, is accused of damaging a car with a machete, along with two or three others, police said. She faces charges for menacing and criminal mischief.
An arrest affidavit says the damaged car broke down and its owner, a 16-year-old boy, called his mom to pick him up.
The court document says that as the boy’s mom showed up, a fight broke out. It says the teen reported hearing five gunshots and then saw a woman, identified by police as Alcon, bashing the windows out of his car with what he thought was a baseball bat, which police later said was actually a machete.
The affidavit says that Alcon told police that she came to the park to watch a fight. It says she initially denied vandalizing the car but then admitted it when the officer told her that the park had cameras. She said three other boys also participated in the vandalism.
Chief Luis Velez said the incident may be gang related. “It could be part of this ongoing fight between two gangs in the city except this time around we’re dealing with juveniles instead of adults, which is normally the case,” he said.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 asked Velez if the community should feel safe living in Pueblo.
“I think they should. The problem is we have other individuals in this community that are willing to perpetrate violence on others and it’s that portion of the city that is continuing these kinds of problems,” Velez said.
The teen who owns the car told police that he doesn’t know Alcon, according to the arrest document.
Police are searching for a black car with several stickers and writing on the back. Witnesses told police the shooter was in that car.
