Plan to smuggle heroin into southern Colorado jail thwarted by deputies

The sheriff’s office says two men are facing charges and two women are under investigation after a plan to smuggle drugs into the Pueblo County Jail was stopped.

The investigation began after deputies received a tip from inside the jail that heroin was possibly going to be brought into the facility.

At the same time, detectives from the police department were investigating a case involving two women who were accused of dropping a package of heroin near an area where inmates had access.

The sheriff’s office says investigators determined that the package was intended to be picked up by “trustee” inmates who were assigned to work outside of the jail. It says no drugs ever made it into the jail.

The sheriff’s office says Israel Morales, 20, and Channse Lowe, 24, face multiple charges including conspiracy to introduce contraband.

The two women who were accused of dropping off a package of heroin for pickup by inmates have not been charged, but the investigation is ongoing.
