Bears are getting ready for hibernation

With the season changing, wildlife are on the move.

And that includes bears.

They’re getting ready for hibernation.

Bears have been seen almost everywhere in Colorado Springs.

One was even recently seen inside of a downtown pizza shop.

Parks and Wildlife officers say the bears are entering a phase of the year where they’re constantly looking for food.

“They’re trying to get ready for hibernation, so they’re active up to 20 hours a day and they’re trying to build up fat for wintertime. They’re trying to get about 20,000 calories a day,” said Frank McGee, area wildlife manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

McGee says that not all bears hibernate. As long as they have a source of food, they can avoid the long winter nap.
