Pueblo city and county could turn into one government

It could be up to the people in Pueblo next November to decide if they want Pueblo city and county to be one government.

Pueblo City Councilman Bob Schilling brought it up during council’s meeting Monday night.

He said Pueblo County Commissioner Sal Pace supports the merger as well.

Schilling said he wants the people to decide next November on the issue.

He said if the merger happens, he’s planning to have a seven- to nine-member committee to represent Pueblo.

“It’s a simple thing, united we stand divided we fall and to have disagreements between the two forms of governments is a waste of everyone’s time and tax money,” he said.

Schilling said if there is one government, a mayor would be elected.
