Swatting arrest in Colorado
and he’s under arrest tonight.. good evening and thanks for joing us. i’m and i’m heather skold. first tonight, to that colorado springs teen accused of making threats that locked down a school thousands of miles away. the teen is wo accused of using software to mask his location.. and threaten a high school in corona, california .. that’s east of los angeles. the f-b-i says, what the teen did is called “swatting.” krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller found out.. it’s not easy to track.. james, heather, swatting is easy to do … people use technology to hide their number and make anonymous and bogus 911 calls. it’s a problem for law enforcement… because they still have to respond like it’s a serious threat. a bomb threat called into this corona california high school cancelled classes september 9th. the caller used a fake name and called area police twice on a non- emergency line… no bomb was ever found. but the fbi says it was a hoax made by a teen in colorado springs. he’s under the age of 18 and won’t be identified. sot: the people that do it try all sorts of techniques, bounce their signal off… and make it difficult to track but it’s not. sergeant greg white with the el paso county sheriff’s office can’t comment on the investigatio n, since it’s in the hands of the fbi. but an f-b-i release says they searched the suspect’s home yesterday, and found enough evidence to make an arrest. sot: the term swatting means a swat team, they’ll make a call to get someone to show up at somebody’s house that’s completely innocent. standup: the punishment for swatting can range from probation to time behind bars depending on the severity. and it’s a crime coloradans have seen before. sot:just shot my girlfriend, hostages in the bathroom… would like a negotitator in july, cops got a call that a gunman was holding hostages in this black forest/?/?/x black forest house o? house o? house o? house nats – cops bursting in. cops burst into a littleton video game store last year, after they got a call about an active shooter. -both cases were a hoax. sometimes it takes a bit of time, but we’ll get ot them. el paso county sheriff’s office deputies arrested the teen and the 4th judicial district attorney’s office is reviewing the case to determine if charges should be filed. the
