Pueblo kids promote peace in the city using paper boats

It’s a fleet of boats that usually send messages during war, but kids from all over Pueblo are using the Arkansas Riverwalk to promote peace by using small paper boats Sunday night.

The 21st Peace Fortilla event brought almost a hundred kids. The kids used boats to send messages of peace on the Riverwalk before International Peace Day.

The event was started by a World War II veteran in Pueblo who felt the water should be used for peace instead of violence.

“(We are) just bringing people together sharing some love and kindness,” organizer Cynthia Ramu said.

Kassaundra Quijas built a boat in memory of her great grandmother who passed away earlier this year.

“She meant a lot to me. She was always there when I was growing up. I remember going in visiting her every weekend when I was little girl, it was hard,” she said.

The event was originally on the Arkansas River but moved to the Riverwalk this year.
