Woman speaks out following road rage incident, CSPD advises caution while driving
Kyla Young is a Fort Carson veteran suffering from PTSD, and that’s why she was especially shocked when she said she was aggressively attacked while driving.
Young says it happened Friday morning, as she was driving her 8-year-old son to Mesa Ridge Elementary in Southeast Colorado Springs. She was driving down Powers, where the road turns on to Mesa Ridge.
“Once we get down where the lane merges into one, a car comes out of nowhere speeding next to me. She couldn’t get over so she was trying to make her way over by pushing me into the ditch,” Young said.
Young says the driver pulled off the side of the road and reached in her glove compartment, but wasn’t sure for what.
It was then that the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun, then continued to wave the gun for several minutes while following Young.
Young credits quick thinking to her advantage; she says she turned around and got her license plate number.
Colorado Springs Police Lieutenant Howard Black says Young did the right thing.
“Our recommendation is… Whenever you’re involved with aggressive drivers, don’t engage. Make the next turn, slow down, don’t engage,” said Lt. Black.
Young is still in shock and will be extra cautious from now on while doing all of her driving.
“It’s sad that you have to drive around and worry about something like that… Just going to the store could end up in a terrible situation,” said Young.
