Ex-Boulder detective convicted of tipping off suspect

A former Boulder police detective has been found guilty of sending a warning email to a suspect in a 2014 Internet child-luring case.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, a 12-person jury deliberated for more than three hours Friday and convicted Jack Gardner of being an accessory to a crime, as well as obstructing a peace officer and misdemeanor first-degree official misconduct.

He’ll be sentenced Nov. 13, and his bond has been continued until that date.

Gardner’s attorney says his client was in an impaired mental state when he was accused of sending an email from his work computer telling a suspect to cancel a meeting with a 13-year-old girl.
