Sitting ban still controversial

evening and thanks for joing us. i’m heatehr ? skold. and i’m james jarman. round two as the public weighs in on a colorado springs sitting ordinance. …and it got heated again, even though changes have been made to the new proposal.. specifically the penalties for violators. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller was at the meeting, he’s live in old colorado city.. and greg those changes will be less severe. tonights meeting was for people who live and work here in the west side in and around old colorado city. some of the penalties of this proposed ordinance have weakened…but its still getting mixed reviews. take pkg – some say it needs to pass clip 36 – trying to keep them off of property and away from my customers others say this is wrong. clip 43: i don’t want to be connected with a city that has no conscience. one mom wanted her kids to hear it all. clip 24: i want them to see the process in working with community and working with politics. ?? she has a unique perspective on this potential ban, she too was homeless. sot: from the time i was 16 until i was 22. and i’m finally to the point where i can pay my own bills…to me it’s huge to be able to just scrape by. she doesn’t like the current proposal, though she says something needs to change for the benefit of everyone. and she’s not alone. clip 37: i don’t want an ordinance out there that we can’t enforce. otherwise this town will become a joke greg: the policy has changed since it was first introduced, istead of a 25-hundred dollar maximum fine, it would be 500 dollars and jailtime is off the table. whether public perception will change as a result of the changes – still needs to be seen. clip 23: the intention was two things, safety of all people and their feeling about people coming downtown and shopping and looking at business opportunities so businesses don’t suffer because businesses are staying away. but whether that intention is supported – is still split. given the emotion and turnout at these supported – is still split. given the emotion and turnout at these meetings, we’re told there will be two more meetings for the public to weigh in… we’re expecting to get specifics on that next week. city council delayed their voted until late november… in order to do more research. live in cs, gm, nc 13. another
