Ultralight pilot shot after allegedly buzzing hunters

Investigators believe a hunter who fired at an ultralight pilot intentionally hit the man who allegedly buzzed his hunting ground.

Farmer James Johnson was hit in the leg by BB pellets over a sand bed next to his cornfield near Byers where Frank Urban was dove hunting with his cousin on Sept. 1.

According to court documents, Johnson said Urban appeared to flip him off and pointed his rifle at him before he was wounded as he took another pass over the sand bed.

Urban told investigators that Johnson buzzed over them about six to eight times and denied intentionally shooting at him.

Urban’s cousin, however, thought Urban was shooting at the plane.

Urban, has been charged with second-degree assault and felony menacing.
