Graffiti tagging leads to deadly shooting in Pueblo, authorites say

A well-known Pueblo man was shot and killed Monday night after his home was tagged with graffiti.

Pueblo police said shots were fired on the 1800 block of East Routt Avenue on the city’s south side.

Ricky Muniz, 32, heard someone tagging his home with spray paint. When he went outside to confront the taggers he was shot and killed.

Other homes nearby were also marked with graffiti.

Police said the tags and the shooting could be gang-related.

Friends described Muniz as a talented musician with a bright future.

“He was just starting to get involved with church, he was recently baptized and taking a Bible class. He was just ecstatic about his newfound glory for the Lord,” said Veronica Molina, a friend of Muniz.

Muniz’s family said they will continue to fight to uplift the community, representing the good that they believe is still in Pueblo.

The family called Muniz’s death a senseless tragedy. Police have no suspects. Anyone with information is asked tocall Pueblo Crime Stoppers at (719) 542-7876.

Police also reminded the public to refrain from confronting people in such situations, and to call police instead.
