Black bear spotted roaming around Old Colorado City

A Colorado Springs woman got quite a scare on Sunday morning when she saw a large bear in her yard.

Vickie Byrne says the bear was the last thing she was expecting to see when she looked out her window.

Byrne says she was house-sitting at a home in Old Colorado City.

She wasn’t the first one to spot the bear; her dog caught sight of it before she did.

“The dog went to the corner of the yard and barked ferociously. I looked and I saw this huge black mass in the corner of the yard and I went WHOA! and I got closer and I went that is the bear and that is a very big bear!” said Byrne.

“It probably weighed 400 pounds,” Byrne added.

Byrne says she hopes to see the bear again, and that there have been other sightings in the area.
