Gas leak forces evacuations in northeast Springs neighborhood

The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a gas leak in a neighborhood near Powers Blvd. and Old Ranch Rd. Thursday.

The call came from the 10600 block of Echo Canyon Drive, which is located in a new subdivision east of Pine Creek High School.

The fire department said a two inch line was struck by a contractor.

Workers evacuated the site and people living in nearby homes were asked to shelter in place.

The leak is now under control.
