Man faces kidnapping charge in weekend incident that police say was thwarted by an alert citizen

A man who police say kidnapped a teenage girl near the Broadmoor Hotel Saturday was in court Tuesday.

Nicholas Hughes was advised of the charges against him on September 8, 2015.

Hughes faces charges for 2nd degree kidnapping, 2nd degree assault and harassment. His bond was set at $10,000.

Police say an alert citizen called them after seeing a young girl being forced into a silver SUV near the Broadmoor Hotel on the afternoon of September 5. The person followed the vehicle as it drove east on Lake Avenue.

Officers found the vehicle, the suspect and the girl, 17, near Cheyenne Meadows and Highway 115.

Hughes was arrested. Police say the teen was taken to the hospital after suffering serious bodily injuries.

Hughes will be back in court on September 18.
