Attendance at state fair exceeds 2014 turnout

More people visited the Colorado State Fair this year than in 2014.

This year 500,207 people came to the state fairgrounds, compared with 498,721 the year before.

“I’m thrilled that attendance exceeded the half-million level,” state fair general manager Chris Wiseman said in a statement.

Total attendance at the fair was down as of Monday morning compared to that time last year, but a strong showing on Labor Day turned attendance around. On Monday, 39,174 people visited the fair. Last year, 33,981 visitors attended the fair on Labor Day.

The 2015 fair also marked a record-breaking year for the annual Colorado’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale. Preliminary totals showed this year’s sale resulted in about $531,300 from the state’s most dedicated bidders, while last year’s sale totaled $481,200.

Wiseman said it’s too early to have a financial assessment of the fair until the profit/loss report is completed, but added that “preliminary information is positive.”

“We also stayed true to our mission of highlighting the importance of agriculture, providing educational opportunities to the people of Colorado, and supporting 4-H and FFA youth,” Wiseman said. “That is our true measure of success.”
