Theater shooter received supportive letters, money in jail

Strangers from across the world sent Colorado theater shooter James Holmes money, photos and supportive letters during his three years in a county jail.

Prosecutors this week released 200 pages worth of mail sent to Holmes in response to open-records requests made after his trial. Holmes was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering 12 people and trying to kill 70 more during the July 2012 massacre.

The letters are mostly from young women expressing support and sharing their struggles with mental illness and the legal system.

Sandy Phillips, whose daughter, Jessica Ghawi, was killed in the shooting said the letters are disgusting because they glorify Holmes.
