La Plata County asking for help in finding shooter

Officials in La Plata County are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a shooter.

Sheriff’s officials say shots were fired into two homes last month, and one bullet narrowly missed a child.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Sheriff’s officials say someone shot five .45-caliber rounds into two homes in the Newbold Trailer Park in the 21000 block of Highway 160.

Eight people were in the mobile homes at the time. Those eight included four children between the ages of 7 and 13 and four adults between the ages of 18 and 50.

The bullets were fired into the living area of both homes. One bullet was shot into a child’s bedroom.

No one saw a person or vehicle leave the area after the shooting.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers anonymously at 247-1112 for a reward. Calls also can be made to LPCSO Investigator Sgt. Ed Phippen at 382-7058.
