Family comes home to find burglar inside
A Colorado Springs family came home to find a burglar inside their house.
Brittany Cone said it was a typical Monday filled with taking care of her two children and running errands…until she got home.
“I opened the door and looked up from my keys and it took me a second but I realized a man who wasn’t supposed to be there was standing by the back door,” Cone said.
She screamed, and her husband, Matthew Cone, came running.
“I heard her scream that someone was inside so I ran in to make sure she was OK. She said he already left out the back,” Cone said.
Cone didn’t wait for police; he decided to run after the burglar.
“All I could think was ‘Catch him,'” Cone said. “If he took my stuff I was going to get it back.”
While Cone was running through the backyards chasing the man, a neighbor across the street caught the whole thing on her security camera.
Fiona Rockwell said she hopes her surveillance video can help police find the burglar.
“I heard the screams and saw this man chasing another,” she said. “You can see what the suspect is wearing on the video.”
Cone is just happy her husband was home for the day.
“I’m usually alone with the kids while he is at work so I’m just thankful he was here to help us,” she said.
She said the family is on edge, but won’t live in fear.
“Of course I am scared he could come back but he is also cowardly because he ran off when he saw a female come through the door,” she said.
Police would not comment if they had any leads because the investigation is ongoing.
