Group of teens help with search and rescue at the state fair

The Colorado State Fair brings games, food and different activities for kids, but a group of future military leaders are trading ride tokens for two way radios.

Tens of thousands of people come to the state fair each day. The Civil Air Patrol’s mission is to roam the state fairgrounds to make sure loved ones are reunited with friends and family.

“It’s stressful, it’s a hard job but someone has got to do it,” Civil Air Patrol member Joshua Braun said.

Braun said he and the rest of the group like to do search and rescue missions and it gives them practice on the two way radios.

State fair security guard Jim Harrison said the air patrol is important to the fair.

“They are very helpful. It’ll take away from some of my security staff looking for the kids, while those kids, they are out there. It puts more eyes and more people to find the kids quicker,” he said.

The Civil Air Patrol said it has made 14 rescues since the beginning of the fair.
