New shows, vendors kick off start of State Fair

As the Colorado State Fair kicks off with its signature agriculture competitions, rides and rodeo shows, KRDO NewsChannel 13 is also looking at some of the new exhibits making its debut this year.

For starters, there’s a new food vendor that’s all about bacon.

“We do bacon-wrapped turkey legs, which we call our caveman legs. They’re wrapped in almost a pound of bacon,” said Amber Vandewarker, owner of The Bacon Habit.

Vandewarker said she and her husband found a way to add bacon to everything from hot dogs to chicken.

“They say bacon is like the meat candy, so why not wrap everything in bacon,?” Vandewarker said.

For those looking for some entertainment, a new show, “Wild About Monkeys,” gives a new meaning to monkey business. Hosts Kevin and Martina Keith train baboons to do a variety of tricks.

And for thrill lovers, the fair’s newest ride gives fairgoers a high. It’s called “Sky Trip.”

“It turns you every which way but loose. The seats rotate, the arms rotate and then everything raises up in the air,” said ride inspector Bill Hoggard.
