No stop-sign symbol headed to edible pot in Colorado

Colorado has backed off a plan to require edible marijuana products to come with a stop-sign stamp.

State marijuana regulators released an updated proposal this week detailing the state’s upcoming requirement that pot-infused cookies, brownies and other foods have a distinct look when outside the packaging.

The Marijuana Enforcement Division originally proposed a red octagon marking with the letters THC inside. The updated proposal makes the octagon a triangle, still with the letters THC inside to indicate the drug’s psychoactive ingredient. The stamp on the actual product does not have to be red.

Manufacturers complained that a stop-sign shape implied that the products are dangerous and shouldn’t be consumed. .

The revised proposal goes for a public hearing next week. The rule takes effect in 2016.
