Monument elementary school briefly placed on secure perimeter

An elementary school in Lewis-Palmer School District 38 was placed on secure perimeter Wednesday morning.

The district says Prairie Winds Elementary was placed on secure perimeter at 10:45 a.m. because of an outside threat.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says a man was arrested for having a gun on school property. It says the gun was in the man’s car.

No one was allowed in or out of the building until the situation was resolved.

The district says the secure perimeter was lifted at 11:27 a.m. and that all students and staff are safe.
