Jail, Probation For Woman in Black Forest Horse Abuse Case
forest woman convicted of abusing horses learns her fate. a judge today sentenced sherrie brunzell to 60 days in jail… and five years of probation. it’s after her conviction for abusing 8 horses in black forest a year ago. k-r-d-o newschannel 13’s scott harrison wain court for the verdict… he’s live at the courthouse in downtown colorado springs. scott, when will brunzell begin serving her jail time? not for another month, at least. her attorney, andrew bryant, plans to appeal… and will ask for a new trial on september 17th. bryant and brunzell did not comment after the sentencing. about a dozen horse advocates were here. they’ve followed this case from the beginning. among them–c.t. babcock, the former owner of dual peppy… one of the abused horses. we heard from him yesterday. it’s clear that the local horse community is satisfied with brunzell’s sentence. and the prosecution is, too. “i like the five years. it’s increased supervision, she’ll be monitored through the probation department and this is a way we can make sure she doesn’t have access to horses or livestock for the next five years.” brunzell also must pay a fine of 4-thousand dollars, and attend 16 counseling sessions. prosecutors say she used taking care of her dying mother, as an excuse for how e treated not just the 8 surviving horses, but 14 dead horses in her barn. we’ll have more reaction coming up at five. live at the el paso county courthouse–sco tt harrison, krdo newschannel 13. if it wasn’t for a neighbor’s dog running loose
