Crossroads adding 10 detox beds to Pueblo facility

Crossroads’ Turning Points plans to add 10 detox beds to its eastside facility.

CEO and President Leroy Lucero said the 10 beds are needed because of an increase in referrals by the police department and local hospitals, in addition to people seeking treatment on their own. Crossroads currently has 20 detox beds in Pueblo.

“It’s great news for Pueblo because they haven’t had these kind of additional beds for a long time,” Lucero said. “They’ve needed and now they have it.”

Lucero said most of the initial cost associated with expanding the service will be covered by client fees and third-party reimbursement.

“My hope is that the response I get from the community and the partners is such that it will allow us to add another 10 beds and to get Pueblo to around 40-45 beds,” he said. Lucero said he’ll be approaching Pueblo City Council and county commissioners, in addition to seeking more state funding.

Lucero plans to have the new 10 beds in use by early October at 509 E. 13 Street. He’s looking to hire five more employees.

He told KRDO NewsChannel 13 the number one abused drug by clients at the facility is heroin, followed by alcohol abuse.

“Treatment is an alternative to incarceration. It’s an alternative to a lifestyle that’s very disruptive because it has no barriers,” Lucero said.
