Progress made in cutting grass, trimming weeds in city
Mowing and trimming crews in Colorado Springs are making steady progress in a summer made busier by constant rain, a city official said Tuesday.
Kurt Schroeder, operations manager for Parks and Recreation, said crews are now a week behind where they should be, instead of three weeks behind last month.
Schroeder said about two-thirds of the work is done by a private contractor but city crews have devoted more time than usual to mowing and trimming.
“We’ve brought our crews in for extra time, kept them longer during each day and we’ve had some in on weekends to try to catch up with some of the more problematic areas,” he said. “So we’ve put more effort into it.”
Schroeder said crews have almost finished two rounds of mowing and that workers are focusing on trails near schools that kids use to get to and from home.
“We needed the rain but not as much as we got,” he said.
