2nd bear killed near home of woman jailed for feeding them

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says a second black bear was euthanized after it was caught looking for food at a Colorado Springs home where a woman is suspected of feeding some of the animals

Wildlife officials say the 500-pound bear was captured Monday and had to be euthanized as it had been captured in 2009 in Basalt, south of Glenwood Springs.

This is the second bear found near the home of 62-year-old Jo Ann Medina, who is suspected of feeding them. Medina was arrested Aug. 12 after numerous warnings and citations that span multiple years. She was released Thursday on $800 bond.

An arrest affidavit says a neighbor’s camera caught Medina serving breakfast to an “extremely large” bear on her deck Aug. 2.
