UPDATE: All-clear given at Sand Creek High School after reported bomb threat
Colorado Springs police have given the all-clear at Sand Creek High School after a reported bomb threat Tuesday morning.
A spokesman for District 49 says the district received an anonymous Safe 2 Tell report about the threat shortly before 7:30 a.m.
The school was immediately put in a shelter-in-place status, meaning no one could enter or exit the building, but inside classroom activities were going on as normal.
Bomb-sniffing K-9 teams swept the building and school grounds, and found nothing of concern.
Many parents waited outside. One parent, Tyra Hutton immediately went to the school when she found out about the threat.
“We’re from a small town and we don’t get things like this,” said Hutton.
While waiting outside, Hutton communicated with her son Jeff, via text message.
“He was saying that they were scared and he was mentioning that the others around him were really scared and I encouraged him to keep them calm and stay calm himself,” said Hutton.
“It’s scary, my son is a Freshman. You try to brace yourself for something like this, it’s kinda panicky,” said Sharisse Pramberg.
“Sometimes you just see pranks, specially early and late in the year. You just hope it’s not real or something serious,” said Dan Maltese.
Students were released back to classes just before 9 a.m.
The school district says they take these threats very seriously and if someone was found responsible, they could be expelled or face criminal charges.
