Local officer, olympian to be featured on Men’s Health

A Colorado Springs police officer could be on the cover of a national magazine this fall.

Officer Adam Wheeler has been with the Colorado Springs Police Department for seven years and part of the SWAT team for about two and a half. Last year, he earned two Medals of Valor.

In 2008, Wheeler competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won the bronze medal for wrestling. Now, he’s going after a different accolade, competing in the Ultimate Men’s Health Guy competition. Out of nearly 1,000 entries, Wheeler was chosen as one of five semifinalists. The magazine chose men who are dedicated to serving others.

“I’m hoping that this can bring a positive outlook for police around our country right now,” he said. “Police are there for the right reasons. We’re here for good. We’re here to protect and serve.”

All the semifinalists’ stories will appear in the magazine, and the winner will be featured on the cover of the November issue. The winner will be announced in October.
