El Paso County dog park to close this weekend

The Bear Creek Dog Park will be closed on August 15th due to the Slide the City event on 21st Street next to the dog park.

The closure will be for August 15th only and normal operations will resume on the 16th of August.

Slide the City is a 1,000-foot temporary water slide which will be set up on 21st Street.

“For the safety of dog park users, and to avoid additional traffic congestion, the dog park will be closed on the day of the event,” said El Paso County Community Services Director Tim Wolken. “We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause but we invite our regular Bear Creek Dog Park users to try the Fox Run Regional Park Off-Leash Dog Park or another county park or trail.”

Dog owners using park trails must have their dogs on a leash.

The “Slide the City” promoter has made a donation to El Paso County Parks in support of maintenance activities at the dog park that will take place while the park is closed on the 15th. The maintenance will include mowing, trail upgrades, and erosion repairs.

Volunteers are needed and are encouraged to contact Kyle Melvin, Central District Maintenance Supervisor at kylemelvin@elpasoco.com for more information and to sign up to help.
