Shooting victims react to sentence

sentencing brings a little closure to the families of the victims — even though it wasn’t the outcome some of them wanted. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller continues our coverage live from the century theater greg… some family members of those killed, can’t believe today’s outcome. it’s the end of three years where those families had to re-live the july night and what happened inside this theater over and over again. a lot of the families wanted to see the death penalty, some of them couldn’t even stay inside the courtroom as the sentence for each count was read but this is the end of a painful experience. take super robert sullivan victim’s grandfather 002: 6:52 we always knew this was a possibility the shooter’s life sentence doesn’t bring the closure many had hoped for. take super sandy phillips victim’s parents 008 58:05 the jury chose another way and we have to accept that. but it does end a grueling experience. 008 57:49 for the families who are in wheelchairs we didn’t lose loved ones, our loved ones were ripped from us. out of all the families here no one ever mentioned the shooter’s name. kathleen larimer victim’s mother 005 48:59 i really am sick and tired of seeing his picture with orange hair plastered everywhere. the grief they share has become a source of strength. dave hoover victim’s uncle 007 54:55: we could not have gotten through this without the kind love and words of everybody and our family standing here together for them, and so many others, it’s about the victims and the first for them, and so many others, it’s about the victims and the first respoders – tom sullivan victim’s father 006 52:46 each of them did their job to the highest . 007 54:07 we have to rember why we’re here which is our loved ones, our loved ones are gone, we can never get that back, i will never get to hug him again, i’ll never get to say i love you a.j. and families now looking for peace three years in the making. none of the family ever spoke ill will of the jury we’re told it was just one juror who stood in the way of the shooter getting the death penalty. live at the century theater, gm, nc 13.
