Eviction concerns in Calhan RV park
People in one El Paso County neighborhood say they’re being evicted with not enough notice. The RV park is on Independence Ranch in southern Calhan.
“I am so incredibly angry, beyond violence, beyond words,” said Frank Wilson.
It took Frank Wilson six months to find a home. He says he did not get enough notice to leave.
“We got 10 minutes notice we have to leave,” said Wilson.
The landowner claims he gave residents 30 days notice.
“I was handed a cease and desist order by the Sheriff’s Department for all the RVs that have to be removed from the property,” said Todd G.
The previous landowner says the reason why people have to move is because of El Paso County’s zoning policy.
“They said I needed a $1.3 million well, several hundred dollar septic tank and pay the city in zoning fees,” said Issac Kitchen.
Kitchen says he sold the land because he couldn’t afford the expenses. One resident say’s he thinks the owner purchased the land to expand his marijuana grow.
“This is supposed to be a RV park legal to grow pot,” said Steven Cornford.
The land owner denies those accusations.
“I’m complying with the law,” said Todd.
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says homeowners can’t be evicted without a proper court procedure and documentation.
