Arrest made in Old Colorado City bank robbery

Colorado Springs police say their suspect in Wednesday morning’s robbery at Pikes Peak National Bank was arrested in Pueblo.

The robbery happened in the 2400 block of W. Colorado Avenue at around 10 a.m. on August 5, 2015.

Police say a witness saw their suspect get into a car and wrote down the license plate number. That information lead them to the 1500 block of Pine Street in Pueblo. Police say that’s where they found the man who was captured on surveillance video robbing the bank in Colorado Springs.

Donnie Edwards, 58, was arrested. He faces a robbery charge for the crime at Pikes Peak National Bank and an attempted robbery charge for an incident that happened earlier yesterday at a Key Bank in the 1500 block of S. 8th Street in Colorado Springs. Police say he went there before going to the Old Colorado City bank and they believe he may have been planning to rob it, but was spooked for some reason.
