Burglaries linked to car chase, rollover
A string of burglaries in Security-Widefield are being linked to a chase and rollover that took place Saturday morning.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a car theft at Estrella Vista street around 4 a.m. The suspect or suspects entered through a dog door, took the car keys and stole the car parked in the driveway, driving through a fence in the process.
Shortly after, deputies spotted the stolen car on Highway 85/87 near Plaza Boulevard. Deputies tried to stop the car. The driver began to yield but then drove off. The driver lost control and rolled at Security Boulevard and Chatfield Drive.
According to deputies, a suspect was seen running from the car. They eventually found and arrested a young woman who admitted she was in the car and who had property that belonged to the car theft victim. She told deputies there were two males with her, but no other suspects were found. Because she is a juvenile, the Sheriff’s Office isn’t releasing her name or age.
Several other burglaries were reported later in the morning on the same street from where the car was stolen. Other residents woke up to find their property vandalized.
“I’ve lived here for over 40 years, and (this has) never happened like this, never,” Marianne Barham said.
The Sheriff’s Office said this case will be referred to investigations for further follow-up.
