Antonito school sold for hemp processing plant

The South Conejos Board of Education has sold an old high school complex to promoters of a hemp processing plant.

Alfonzo Abeyta and Joe Rael bid $500,000 for the high school complex, and Abeyta discussed the prospects for hemp processing.

Another bidder offered $400,000 for the old complex and was submitted by Billy De Herrera and Antonito Community Center LLC.

According to the Alamosa Valley Courier, Abeyta said the hemp processing facility would bring jobs and much-needed revenue to the area. With some of that revenue, he suggested the community could build a community center.
