Investigation into former sheriff Terry Maketa referred to 18th Judicial District

The case into former sheriff Terry Maketa has been referred to the 18th Judicial District, according to sources.

Undersheriff Joe Breister told KRDO Newschannel 13 Friday night it is his understanding the case has been referred. But he said he could not comment anymore than that.

The 4th Judicial District asked for help back in June 2014, but did not know which district would help.

Former sheriff Terry Maketa is accused of having inappropriate relationships with three female subordinates, who he later promoted in the sheriff’s office.

An independent investigation confirmed those findings back in October.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigations is leading the investigation, but has not commented because it is still active.

The 18th Judicial District is the same district prosecuting Aurora theater shooter James Holmes.
