Man injured in Colorado Springs fireworks accident

A man likely lost his hand after holding onto a firework inside of a car in Colorado Springs Wednesday night.

It happened around 10 p.m. near Afternoon Circle and Dawn Break Loop in the city’s southeast side.

Police said they responded to a report of gunshots and explosions.

When officers arrived they found out a car full of people were driving around throwing fireworks at homes. One exploded inside, blowing off a man’s hand, police said.

The man was taken to an area hospital.

Alcohol was a factor, police said, but the investigation is ongoing.
