Colorado Springs officer bonds out of jail after arrest

A Colorado Springs police officer is out of jail, after paying a $3,000 bond early Tuesday morning.

Detective Paul Patton, 39, was arrested late Monday night.

Patton faces charges of attempting to influence a public servant, first-degree official misconduct and false reporting to authorities.

“It does hit close to home when something like this happens,” said Colorado Springs Police Lt. Catherine Buckley.

The police department said it got information on Sunday that sparked the investigation into Patton.

Officers had enough probable cause to make the arrest on Monday night.

“Any time we have to arrest an officer it’s something that causes us to pause, it causes concern, but we have to carry out our duties,” Buckley said.

Police said the details of the case remain sealed for now.

Patton will remain on paid administrative leave until charges are formally filed.

“When an individual is first arrested, they stay on administrative leave. Once formal charges are filed, then it can be converted over to leave without pay,” Buckley said.

If Patton is found guilty of the felony charge, he will lose his badge and possibly face up to six years in prison.

Patton is the second Colorado Springs police officer to be arrested on felony charges this year.

Patton will be in court on Aug. 5.
