Lockheed Martin Corp. to cut jobs in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Lockheed Martin Corp. is set to layoff 270 employees in Colorado Springs in September unless the Government Accountability Office upholds the aerospace giant’s protests of the $700 million contract being moved to Raytheon Co.

Lockheed Martin was required by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act to send layoff notices last week.

In a statement Monday, Lockheed Martin says the company does not believe all employees who received notices will be impacted.

Earlier this year the North American Aerospace Defense Command contracted with Raytheon to complete the Integrated Space Command and Control contract that was one of Lockheed’s largest.

The accountability office isn’t expected to rule on Lockheed Martin’s protests until Aug. 26.
