Broken Irrigation Ditch Floods Nixon Power Plant
month, we showed you how wet weather flooded the area around the ray nixon power plant. today, a broken irrigation ditch brought more water in. it started around 6:30 this morning, on farmland owned by colorado springs utilities. the water flooded a tunnel on ray nixon road, where vehicles can drive under i-25. at its highest, the water was a foot deep… and it drained slowly because of a clogged culvert. vehicles could still get through… and a c-dot plow helped by pushing the water out of the tunnel, onto another part of the property. “it may happen once a year, on average. one of their ditches may fail for various reasons. could be erosion due to weather.” the utility says the water didn’t cause any damage… and should drain off by the end of the day. a water main break
