Motorcyclists honor fallen police officers
Hundreds of motorcyclists from all around the state rode to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
They took part in the 10th annual Pikes Peak Fallen Officers Memorial Ride Sunday.
“It’s all about the comradery and honoring those that have fallen,” motorcyclist John Hancheck said. “They’re out there supporting us on a daily basis and many have given their lives supporting us.”
The ride pays tribute to the more than 30 peace officers from the Pikes Peak region who have died in the line of duty.
“We’ve got to show them that we have respect for them and we honor what they do,” motorcyclist Karen Shumate said. “When one of them falls, we need to be there to help pick them up.”
This year’s ride included stops in Divide, Woodland Park and Cripple Creek.
Riders said they are thankful for the service peace officers give to their communities.
“They have to handle the good, the bad and the ugly,” Shumate said. “They need to know that we respect what they do.”
