Another trailer theft: Stolen trailer- found empty
Another case of trailer theft in Colorado Springs, it’s the third tip in the last two months from viewers who had their property stolen. This time the trailer was found five days after it was stolen, but crooks took everything that was inside it.
“It’s really frustrating that someone would take something like that and be OK with it,” said Jedidiah Pearson.
Jedidiah Pearson’s trailer was stolen on May 27th from the parking lot atHotel Elegante. Five days later police found it abandoned.
Pearson’s entire home was inside the trailer.
“Household goods, couches, dressers, beds, kids clothes and more,” said Pearson.
Surveillance footage shows two suspects scoping out the area, then taking the trailer.
“You can see they backed up and drove off,” said Pearson.
Crooks drove off with more than $50,00 worth of valuables, all locked up.
“They would have had to hit the lock open enough to actually get into the lock and cut it off,” said Pearson.
Colorado Springs police said this kind of theft is increasing.
“We have noticed an increase in theft of trailers. This is a trend occurring across Colorado,” said Lt. Catherine Buckley, Colorado Springs Police Department.
On Monday- a trailer was stolen from outside of a business on Garden of the Gods Road. Weeks prior, another trailer was stolen near the same area.
Police were able to find Pearson’s trailer; however, finding the contents inside is difficult.
“If you don’t have proof of the value, your insurance company can only cover so much,” said Pearson.
“Photographs are helpful, that’s information we can get out and look at pawn shops for, we also see the items on Craigslist and online,” said Buckley.
Parson said many of the stolen items can’t be replaced.
“The couches and stuff, that can be replaced. But it’s the big items, my military coins in 12 years gone, awards gone, trophies gone,” said Pearson.
Police recommend using a tongue lock- those are harder to break. If you have any information, call police at 444-7000.
