Not guilty plea for suspect in fetal-abduction case

The woman accused of cutting out an expecting mother’s unborn child in a Longmont attack earlier this year pleaded not guilty Thursday in Boulder County court.

According to the Denver Post , Dynel Lane showed little emotion at the hearing.

Prosecutors say Lane lured 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins to her home on March 18 under the pretense of selling maternity clothes. Police say she attacked Wilkins, cutting her unborn baby from her womb.

Wilkins survived, but her baby, named Aurora, did not. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office later determined the baby died from “fetal demise.”

Because prosecutors say there is no evidence the baby lived outside the womb, Lane was charged with unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

She is charged with attempted murder for the attack on Wilkins.
