Man arrested after allegedly firing at Walsenburg police

A man was tased and arrested on attempted first-degree murder charges after allegedly firing at police in Walsenburg.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 500 block of West 11th Street on a report of a disturbance around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release.

Police found the alleged victim about a half block away from the home. She said she had been assaulted by her son.

When officers drove up to the home, police say the suspect fired one shot at the officers with a rifle. The officers were able to get the suspect to drop his weapon. They then tried to take him into custody.

But police say the suspect struggled with officers and resisted arrest. That’s when officer tased him and took him into custody.

He was booked into the Huerfano County jail. He’s facing an attempted first-degree murder charge among other charges.
