Colorado Springs man eats Chipotle for 107 days straight

For 107 days straight, a Colorado Springs man has eaten Chipotle for lunch — and he can’t really explain why.

“I decided to get Chipotle on a Monday,” Mark Rantal told KRDO NewsChannel 13. “I was going to be eating with a friend on a Wednesday. I went back on a Tuesday and on the Wednesday he said, ‘How long do you think you could go?’ I’m here at day 107. I don’t really have a driving force keeping me going, except for maybe people on the Internet telling me I’m their hero.”

Rantal orders the same thing every day — a sofritas bowl with chips — and usually sits in the same spot in the downtown Colorado Springs Chipotle Mexican Grill. He admits he was worried at first what employees would think.

“Between day 30 and 50, I was so insecure about that,” Rantal siad. “I was like, ‘They think I’m that guy. They think I’m the weirdest guy ever.'”

But over time and tofu bowls, employees got to know Rantal and they formed a friendship.

“This is my food family. This is who I get to hang out with probably five to seven times a week when I’m not jet-setting around other Chipotles around town or around the country,” Rantal said. “When you have people who smile when you walk in a door, you want to go back to that place.”

Since word got out about Rantal’s indefinite endeavor, he says he’s received a lot of questions, support and some hate online.

“I’m one of seven billion tiny people on this awesome rock and I know how little I mean to other people,” Rantal said. “I’m just having fun with my life and the fact that people think what I’m doing is funny, it’s just icing.”
